Sreecharan, What a great proactive program you've begun. That's the level at which (I think) we all need to be digging. Ours is an industry that's not top-of-mind when young people think about careers so I think there's a greater need for us to go out and find them. Reaching out to potential students coming with basic (or moldable) skill sets already in place is a tremendous starting point. The reality is that we have an aging AV professional profile of the leaders who have built this industry. That industry leadership needs to be replenished and this is a great way to get it going. I'm planning on using AV Week as a launching point in my small community to get the word out to people considering careers in similar or associated fields. Thanks again! ------------------------------------------- Richard Bloom CTS Rick Bloom Audio Visual CEO Ventura CA United States -------------------------------------------

Yes Wilbert, I believe most of us face a challenge with filling up the key technical crew at the top. I am yet to find a good solution to this. In the meanwhile, we were able to achieve certain success with profiles like the AV technicians, supervisors and AV managers. We have identified schools who graduate candidates with the basic skills. Have developed a dedicated Training & Development team who work on these candidates for the first 3-6 months and then they are put to full time job. Retaining continues to be a challenge though, working on it.

Hello Everyone,
I have a question for the community. In today's environment with the generational gaps, and increased expectations, how are you recruiting? I have found it very difficult to find qualified candidates for the technically demanding positions we are looking for. We have found great sources for new employees and we have great training to develop them, but in our ever increasing business it is becoming more and more difficult to fill technical leadership positions. The candidates seem to be under qualified with very inflated ideas about their skill sets. Is anyone having luck with a new resource or idea that is bringing them the veteran leadership they are looking for?
